Vodacom Hits 40 Million For The First Time

Vodacom has published its results for the six months ended September 30, 2017.The company said it gained 2.9 million local customers during the period, bringing the network to 40 million South African subscribers for the first time.

“We now also have 3.3 million SIM card connections in our Internet of Things offerings,” said Vodacom.

Vodacom stated that it defines a customer as a user using a service within the last three months. This includes customers who pay a monthly fee.

“This growth in both areas shows that our approach to segmented markets and the provision of greater value through innovative custom bundles continue to yield results,” said Vodacom.

The subscriber numbers of Vodacom for South Africa as of September 30, 2017 were:

Customers – 40.0 million (up 12.1% year-on-year)
Prepaid – 34.76 million (up 13.4% year-on-year)
Contract – 5.23 million (up 3.8% year-on-year)
Data customers – 19.90 million (up 9.6% year-on-year)
IoT Connections – 3.27 million (up 24.6% yoy).
